Support Student Literacy by Joining the VESL Program
STILLWATER, Minn. -- Aug. 15, 2024 -- Through a strong partnership with the Stillwater Sunrise Rotary Club, the VESL program returns to schools this fall.
Volunteers for Elementary School Literacy add opportunities for one-on-one instruction with students. The support of VESL volunteers assists teachers by providing personalized instruction to students that require an additional focus on reading. Their efforts also extend to the media center, providing care for books to support student literacy.
VESL is open to volunteers of all ages and time commitments, with most dedicating one hour a week at schools. In addition to its support at other district elementary schools, the VESL program has plans to launch at Lake Elmo Elementary in fall of the 2024-25 school year and is in need of members to help.
Those interested in joining the VESL program can contact David Waldschmidt with the Stillwater Sunrise Rotary Club at dwaldsch42@gmail.com to learn more.
