Masks strongly recommended, but no longer required in district schools
Beginning Monday, Feb.14, face coverings will be strongly recommended but no longer required for students, staff and visitors in any of our school buildings.
As a school district we continue to follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). While face coverings remain a strong recommendation during times of high transmission, the most effective protection from serious COVID-19 illness remains vaccination. With a decline in COVID positive cases in our school, the widespread availability of vaccines, and concerns about the social and emotional well-being of our students, we’ve made the decision to lift the mask mandate at this time.
Here are a few things to know:
- The CDC still requires face coverings to be worn by students and staff on all school buses.
- A person who is positive for COVID will need to isolate 5 full days at home, and wear a mask for the next 5 days at school. If your child is unable to wear a mask, they will need to stay home for the full 10 days.
- The state has provided our schools with new KN95 masks for all students in grades 6-12 and all staff members. You can pick up a free mask from the main office of your child’s school.
- If there is a positive case in the household, students will need to quarantine for 5 full days (unless fully vaccinated or had COVID in the past 90 days.)
- Individual classrooms or schools may shift back to increased health and safety measures, including the return of face coverings, if necessary to address rising case rates or operational capacity concerns.
We ask that you continue to do your part in keeping our students and staff safe and our schools open. If your child is sick, keep them home. Have your child tested for COVID-19 if they show symptoms such as fever, sore throat, cough, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chills, muscle pain, fatigue, severe headaches or new onset of nasal congestion or runny nose.
